The NAS Information Centre is for anyone with an interest in autism and related disorders, such as Asperger Syndrome. It responds to enquiries, sending out fact sheets and reading lists and has a library of books and videos which can be used on request. The number to ring is 0181 451 0141.

The NAS has Development Officers based all over the country but is coordinated from their Nottingham Office at 0115 911 3360.

InFocus (Essex)

InFocus is a registered charity supporting families of children with disabilities or special needs. They operate a Drop In at Chelmsford every Friday from 10.30 to 2.30 at the above address where parents and carers can relax and chat together, with or without their children. A similar but monthly drop in operates at Braintree. They also organise treats and outings for the children, lobby strenuously on behalf of disabled children’s rights and proper provision of care, including parenting skills courses, and produce a regular newsletter.

Autistic Spectrum Disorders Training and Advice

David Moat has worked extensively with adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders for more than 12 years. He offers advice to individuals with Asperger Syndrome and their families, usually by referral from the usual statutory agencies, who may provide funding. He also supplies training and consultancy, including assessments, to assist others in providing care, education and support to people with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

The Children’s Legal Centre is a unique, independent national charity concerned with law and policy affecting children and young people. It is staffed by lawyers and professionals with experience in child law. It runs a free and confidential legal advice and information service open to children, young people and those concerned about them and also advises and represents children and /or parents involved in education disputes with a school or LEA.
